The Pets Enterprises and Traders Association ( Singapore ) (PETAS) was established on 4 August 2000. A key objective of the association is to raise the standards of the pet industry here to international levels. Its members are made up of the key players and businesses in the pet industry, the network of contacts and information that we share are vital in keeping our association current and updated. By addressing relevant issues and concerns, we aim to raise the pet industry here to international standards.

PETAS aims to develop appropriate strategies for the pet industry to upgrade skills, capability and productivity in order to sustain competitiveness and scale new heights.
This is done through ICAP (Industry Capability Upgrading Programme). This project is spearheaded by a 31-member steering committee. We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Retailcom Pte Ltd (a member of TR21 Business Network) as our
ICAP consultants.

With the support of Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board (SPRING) Singapore and the Work Development Agency (WDA), PETAS worked with Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA), Temasek Polytechnic and our ICAP Consultant, to develop training plan for the pet industry to upgrade skills, capability and productivity in order to sustain competitiveness and scale new heights. We are pleased that we have received assistance, guidance and support from AVA, SPRING, WDA and NTUC and would like to take this opportunity to thank them.

Membership is open to companies, sole-proprietorship, partnership dealing in small animals or any business relating to pets and individuals of any race above 18 years of age who are engaged in or connected with the pets trade.

Membership shall be divided into the following categories

Only representatives who are above 18 years of age shall have the right to vote and to hold office in the Association.

The entrance fee and subscription payable by members of the Association shall be determined by the General Meeting on recommendation from the Management Committee from time to time. Until the Association in a General Meeting shall decide, the entrance fee and subscription shall be as follows:

The fee for Lifetime membership is S$800.00
 

It was a Pet & Consumer Trade Show like no other - were you there?

The Pet Traders Association (PETAS) held a 3-Day mega pets exhibition at Suntec Convention Hall 601 from the 17th to the 19th of December. Thanks to the range of participants and activities that PETAS lined up for pet-lovers and owners alike, the event was a huge success.

Crowds mingled with pets ranging from rabbits and guinea pigs to puppies and fishes, and had the opportunity to take part in activities like pet photo and drawing competitions and even a hamster race. Event exhibitors and veterinarians themselves dispensed useful tips on responsible pet care, pet ownership and pet health. The latest pet products were also available for browsing and purchase, while puppies were up for adoption.

The event aimed to promote a better understanding between pet retailers and consumers. Guest of Honour to the opening ceremony of Asia Pets 2004 was CASE Vice President Ms Penny Low, who noted in her speech that the pet industry is perfectly positioned to continue growing and developing. She reminded pet traders and retailers of their responsibility to educate consumers to avoid them from buying pets on impulse. She also commended PETAS for their years of effort in encouraging the theme of love and proper treatment towards animals, and the spirit of enterprise, through their various activities and initiatives. She encouraged the pet businesses to get CaseTrusted to gain consumers' confidence.
